NIRF 2024 -25th Ranked in Pharmacy

Cell culture refers to the isolation of cells from an animal or plant and their subsequent growth in a favourable artificial environment. Cell culture is one of the major tools used in cellular and molecular biology, providing excellent model systems for studying the normal physiology and biochemistry of cells (e.g., metabolic studies, aging), the effects of drugs and toxic compounds on the cells, and mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. It is also used in drug screening and development, and large scale manufacturing of biological compounds (e.g., vaccines, therapeutic proteins). The major advantage of using cell culture for any of these applications is the consistency and reproducibility of results that can be obtained from using a batch of clonal cells. The cell culture house facility of ISF College of pharmacy was established in April 2010, inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) Buta Singh, Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda. The cross contamination in the cell culture were controlled using Air flow HEPA filter cabinet at the entrance of the facility and utilization of UV lamp throughout the cell culture facility. The cell culture facility having sophisticated instruments such BCL2 level biosafety cabinet, CO2 incubators, BOD incubator, fluorescence microscope and flow cytometer which are eligible to carry out all type of in vitro assays on primary and secondary cell lines. Cell culture facility has a separate room along with air conditioning, sterilization and facility as per follow-

• Aseptic Room for Biosafety cabinet, CO2 incubator and Fluorescence microscopy

• Freezer (-80C) for storage of mammalian cells

• Quarantine room
