The Pharmaceutics Department emphasis on both theoretical & practical aspects of fundamentals underlying the above subject areas and offers in all levels of pharmacy courses like Diploma, Graduate, Masters and PhD Program. Department is well equipped with 5 undergraduate, 4 postgraduate and research laboratories along with specialized research centers-Nano-medicine research lab., GMP compliant pilot-scale industrial lab., Industry-institute partnership cell, DBT funded Biotechnology lab., Animal tissue culture lab. under the guidance of 14 highly skilled & qualified faculty members.
The department provides its students an added skill in pharma research by training on state of art equipments like Lyophilizer, Refrigerated centrifuge, Electro-spinning unit, Spray dryer, Biosafety cabinet, Rapid mass granulator, Multimill, Fluidized bed dryer, Extruder-spheronizer, Fluidised bed dryer cum coater, Auto-coater, Particle size & zeta potential analyzer (DELSA NANO), Brookfield Rheometer, ELISA apparatus, HPLC and Auto dissolution apparatus.
Thrust areas of research in the department of pharmaceutics include –Novel drug delivery systems (Polymeric & lipid based nanosystems), Anti-tubercular and anti-malarial vaccine development, ocular drug delivery systems, targeted drug delivery system, mucoadhesive drug delivery system, technology transfer in conventional formulations, and development of bio-polymers for NDDS.
Pharmacology evolved in the 19th century as a new biomedical discipline that applied the principles of scientific experimentation to therapeutic contexts. The scope of pharmacology is rapidly expanding for the discovery, development and provides the rational basis for the therapeutic uses of new drugs. In its entirety, it embraces knowledge of the sources, chemical properties, biological effects, molecular mechanisms and therapeutic uses of drugs. Pharmacological studies range from those that determine the effects of chemical agents upon subcellular mechanisms, to those that deal with the potential hazards of pesticides and herbicides, to those that focus on the treatment and prevention of major diseases by drug therapy. Pharmacologists are also involved in molecular modeling of drugs, and the use of drugs as tools to dissect aspects of cell function. The scope of pharmacology has expanded exponentially over the last decade to incorporate many new approaches such as computer-assisted drug design, genetic screens, protein engineering and the use of novel drug delivery vehicles including viruses and artificial cells.
Postgraduate education in Pharmacology emphasizes an integrated study of the physiology, pathophysiology and action of drugs in living systems. Research in the department focuses on study of neural and endocrine systems, cardiology, pulmonary, epilepsy, clinical pharmacology, pre-clinical toxicology and drug metabolism. Research in these areas is applied to clinical problems such as aging, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus and its secondary complications. Students Work on molecular pharmacology of experimental dementia of Alzheimer type; Ischemia preconditioning a protective cardio-vascular event, pesticide residues toxicology and molecular pharmacology involved in obesity, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson disease and endothelial dysfunction is being explored through various projects under the supervision of Prof. P.L. Sharma. Excellent research facilities are available including state-of-the art bioanalytical and pharmacology laboratories.

“Better drugs for better therapy” has always been a motto of medicinal chemists. Medicinal chemist plays central role in the identification of lead molecules, lead optimization, and organic synthesis which include synthesis on new compounds for the disease under investigation or development of new synthetic procedure of existing compounds. With an aim to bring expertise in future pharmacy graduates, the ISFCP, Moga started Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2006. The department is constituted with three organic-chemistry synthesis labs, research labs, polymer chemistry lab and instrument lab. All the labs are equipped with the modern research facilities. To tune the students with the current and future drug discovery scenario, a full functional molecular modeling and pharmacoinformatics lab was also started in 2008. The molecular modeling lab provides facilities for ligand based as well as structure based drug design and drug discovery.
Since its inception in 2006, the department flourished under the supervision of leading scientist and academicians like Prof. K. L. Dhar (Former Scientist and HOD, Department of Natural Products, IIIM Jammu), Prof. O. P. Suri (Former Scientist, IIIM Jammu) and Prof. T. R. Bhardwaj (Former Prof. UIPS, Panjab University, Chandigarh). The department is touching new horizons under the mentorship of Prof. T. R. Bhardwaj (HOD of Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry). His in-depth understanding of the subject, exceptionally hard working and cherished attitude has always motivated the students and young researchers.
Pharmaceutical Analysis is one of the most important specialized branches of Pharmaceutical Sciences which involves analysis of Pharmaceutical products. Qualified Pharmaceutical Analysts/Chemists are basic need in each section of Pharmaceutical Industry. They are required by the Industry, research laboratories, and academic institutions not only in India but abroad as well. Pharmaceutical Industry requires analyst in various sections such as Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Analytical Development section, Bio-analytical development section, regulatory affairs and many more. Taking into consideration dire need for the PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSTS, M. Pharm. in Pharmaceutical Analysis was started in 2008 at ISFCP.
From the research point of view Pharmaceutical Analysis department deals with development of analytical methods, bioanalytical methods, validation of developed methods, pre-formulations studies of patented and novel chemical entities, herbal drug standardization of medicinal plants, isolation and characterization of herbal biomarkers, chemometric analysis, pharmacokinetics determination of APIs in presence of herbal bio-enhancers and so on.
Department is well equipped with various sophisticated instruments along with a specialized laboratory named as ISF Analytical Laboratory (ISFAL). It is an endeavour of ISF College of Pharmacy to provide ‘Quality Analysis’ to small scale pharmaceutical industries of the region. It is committed to provide total customer satisfaction & compliance with regulatory bodies with maximum effectiveness & minimal cost. Till date three batches have been passed out and all the students have been placed in various renowned industries. Our M. Pharm. students have been placed in various industries and academic institutes such as: Ind-Swift Laboratory Ltd.; Dabur India Ltd.; Ranbaxy Laboratory Ltd.; Wipro India Ltd. (CRO); Indian Pharmacopoeial Commission; Guru Nanak Dev University; M S University of Baroda; Alkem Laboratories and so on.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 80 percent of the population of some Asian and African countries presently uses herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. The annual turnover of the Indian herbal medicinal industry is about INR 2,300 crore with a growth rate of about 10 percent annually. The export of medicinal plants and herbs from India has increased in the last few years but not signi?cant as Chinese herbal industry and few other developing countries, despite of the fact that India has well-recorded and well-practiced knowledge of traditional herbal medicines. There are several factors behind this like, lack of well-documented traditional use, single-plant medicines, medicinal plants free from pesticides, heavy metals etc., standardization based on chemical and activity profile and well framed regulatory aspects. But still there is an enormous scope for India to emerge as a major player in the global herbal product based medicine. Therefore, Pharmacognosy is one of the core subjects in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga has a core philosophy of its contribution in the quality control and technology advancement in the field of herbal drugs. Hence, the Department of Pharmacognosy has been established in the year 2006 at ISF college of Pharmacy, Moga with the aim to produce experts in the field of herbal drug technology to cater the need of the Nation to be at par with developed countries in the Global Herbal Market.
The department is constituted with one UG lab, three PG labs (one for Ist year PG and two labs fully dedicated to research), instrumentation lab that is well equipped with modern instruments like HPTLC (CAMAG, Switzerland), Lyophillizer (Labtech, Daihan, Korea), Remi Cooling Centrifuge , Motic Digital microscope, Rota Evaporator (Roteva), BOD incubator, CO2 incubator (New Brunswick, USA), Spectrophotometer and Flourimeter, to tune the students with the current and future drug discovery scenario in natural products. Since inception, the department flourished under the supervision of experienced academicians. The department is headed by Dr. Vinod Gauttam. He is assisted by Mr. Darshan Singh, Ms. Seema Brar. The department is dedicated for the research in the field of Quality control of the herbal drug, which is utmost need of the hour. The Pharmacognosy department is also involved in the development of standardized herbal formulations for various diseases. Within the span of seven years the department has produced 62 M. Pharm, Two PhDs and has published numbers of research papers in the journals of National and International repute. The department is also funded with the grants for the research and development in the field of herbal drug technology from various Government agencies.
The quality of pharmaceuticals has been a concern of the World Health Organization (WHO) since its inception. “Quality Assurance” is a wide-ranging concept covering all matters that individually or collectively influence the quality of a product. It is the totality of the arrangements made with the object of ensuring that pharmaceutical products are of the quality required for their intended use.
Quality assurance (QA) refers to planned and systematic production processes that provide confidence in a product's suitability for its desired purpose. It is a set of activities intended to ensure that products (goods and/or services) satisfy customer requirements in a systematic, reliable fashion. Two key principles characterise QA: "fit for purpose" (the product should be suitable for the intended purpose) and "right first time" (mistakes should be eliminated).
It is important to realize also that quality is determined by the intended users, clients or customers, not by society in general. Pharmacy industry is one of the industry which demands these principles in toto and keeping abreast of the advancements, ISF college of pharmacy has started this branch with latest equipment and also with latest tools to train students for the coming years.
Our aim is to train the pharmacy graduates in quality assurance to cater the ever-increasing need of pharmaceutical industry and academia both in public and private sector. Special emphasis is laid on the implementation of Good Manufacturing & Laboratory Practices (GMP & GLP) and documentation.

Infrastructure and Instruments
The Department houses spaciously laid out, highly equipped and properly maintained research laboratories for different aspects of Quality Assurance. The functional QA laboratories have sophisticated and ultramodern instruments like Stability Chambers, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Millipore Water Purification System, Photo-stability Unit, Hot air ovens, pH meters, Digital microbalances etc. for students.
Students of department are also working in established ‘Prototype Pilot Plant Industrial Units’ for solid and parenteral dosage forms and approved ‘Drug Testing Laboratory’, ISFAL, to develop themselves ‘Plug and Play’ graduates as per demand of industries.

Pharm. D. graduation is a post graduate professional doctoral degree. It is a pre-PhD, post-graduate professional doctoral program and a student gets authorization to use prefix Doctor(Dr) to his/her name. It was introduced to improve clinical and hospital pharmacy services in India and it is the only pharmacy service which is in direct contact with patient health care system and authorized to take critical decisions in in-patient prescription. The Pharm. D. degree requires five years of classroom and hospital based didactic study. It is followed by one year of internship training in a hospital setting for Clinical Management of In patients, in addition to ongoing practicals and research project. Pharm. D. students and graduates are actively participating in direct patient care in hospitals.
The Pharm. D. curriculum is designed to produce a scientifically and technically competent pharmacist who can apply this education in such a manner as to provide maximum health care services to patients. Students are provided with the opportunity to gain greater experience in patient close cooperative relationships with health practitioners. It is the goal of all pharmacy schools to prepare pharmacists who can assume expanded responsibilities in the care of patients and assure the provision of rational drug therapy.
